The Gurler Brothers Creamery was founded by Henry B. and George H. Gurler who were the first to buy milk by the "Babcock Test" a method of separating milk from butterfat.
Henry Gurler won a gold medal at the 1900 Paris Expedition for his method of milk preservation and made various improvements to the milk production process including the production of "certified milk"" a purified product designed for hospital use. He also had cattle tested for tuberculosis and employed sanitary measures that were progressive for his time.
