First Haish Opera House

Location: 259 East Main Street
DeKalb (Northwest corner of Third Street and Lincoln Highway)

The Haish Opera House built by DeKalb inventor Jacob Haish was also known as the Opera House Block. The structure housed a theatre on the second floor which hosted shows by travelling performers and stock companies and included a "peanut gallery".

The original structure burned down in 1906 but was quickly rebuilt. The "second" Haish Opera House included the Haish Auditorium on its North end. The building was demolished in in the late 1930's and replaced by the Drs. Smith Building.
