George Gurler House

Location: 205 Pine Street, DeKalb
Erected: 1857
Architectural Style: Greek Revival Style

This home was built by a Mr. Wayman of Sycamore in 1857; George Gurler bought it in 1893.

Gurler was co-founder of the Gurler Brothers Creamery and president of the DeKalb County Farmer's Institute, an organization established to promote sustainable agriculture and soil preservation. The Institute which met in the DeKalb Daily Chronicle Building became the first farm bureau in the United States.

The George Gurler House was entered in the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
