Old Uncle Abe.

Song performed by Leslie Bekelman (vocals), and Tara Dirst (banjo). Recording engineer: Matt Dotson.
Air: "My Old Kentucky Home."

The sun shines bright on the Douglas cause to day,
And brighter to morrow will be;
Old Abe Lincoln's hopes are all passing away,
But sadder times yet will he see.
The Republican crowd are exultant no more,
And Buchanan has given up the fight;
Even Breckinridge stops his knocking at the door,
While Douglas keeps ahead all right.

Weep no more, Abe Lincoln!
Ere weeks shall pass away,
You will be forgot, as you were unknown before,
Except in Illinois, far away.

You need hunt no more, for the game is safely stowed,
And Douglas the victor is found;
You'd much better go home, for you only will get blowed,
If the boys find you lying around.
Keep to splitting rails, or any other fun
That suits your Republican crew;
For a Presidential race has never yet been won
By such a looking chap as you.

So weep away, Abe Lincoln!
Ere weeks shall pass away,
You will be forgot, as you were unknown before,
Except in Illinois far away
