The Illinois Historical Digitization Projects at Northern Illinois University Libraries provides multiple web sites which offer primary documents, interpretive materials, and multi-format resources (images, video, maps, song recordings) related to United States and Illinois history from 1818-1896.
The Digital Projects Department has been working with libraries, universities, and teachers throughout the state of Illinois and beyond since 1998 to develop these sites. Some of our projects' partners include: University of Chicago, Newberry Library, the Joiner History Room at Sycamore, Illinois Public Library, the Schingoethe Museum at Aurora University, Illinois State University, St. Louis Mercantile Library, Tulane University, and Northwestern University's Collaboratory Project.
Drew E. VandeCreek, the projects' director, holds a Ph.D. in American History from the University of Virginia.
Tara L. Dirst (January 1999 - April 2007), the projects' technology coordinator, has a M.S. in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a M.A. in American History/Women's Studies from Northern Illinois University, and secondary teacher's certification in social studies in the state of Illinois.
Jennifer Erbach, a history and teaching certification student at Northern Illinois University created many of the lesson plans.
